Online Session #5 with Do Jun

Topic/Skill: Understanding the different elements of an argumentative essay in English and improving the effectiveness of the argument.

Feedback provided to the tutee: I helped Do Jun with the structure of his argument, mainly how to strengthen his claim and pieces of supporting evidence. I also, inserted lessons regarding gerunds and relative pronouns to sprinkle in continued grammar learning and practice. I asked Do Jun questions to help him improve his sentence structure.

Lessons: Critique of Do Jun's argumentative essay, gerunds (form and usage), relative pronouns, and transition words.

Do Jun's Argument:

Claim: I think that practice is the most important thing for you if you want to become smarter.

Supporting Evidence: First, it's very easy to forget something if you don't practice it. Practice also helps you memorize something for a long time.
Next, practice gives you more pressure which makes you work harder so you can see better results.
Finally, practice can give you strong confidence because you can learn from your mistakes.

Rebuttal: Some people who think they are genius do not consider practice very important. They believe their nature of genius is more important than practice. There are many cases of people who think they are geniuses who didn't make an effort and failed.

Conclusion: For all of these reasons, practice is the most important thing for you to become smarter.
